Basics

What is a QR code?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned using a smartphone camera. It can store various types of information including URLs, text, contact information, WiFi credentials, and more. QR codes were originally developed in Japan in 1994 for automotive manufacturing but are now used worldwide for marketing, payments, and information sharing.

Basics

How do I scan a QR code?

To scan a QR code, open your smartphone's camera app and point it at the QR code. Most modern smartphones (iPhone and Android) automatically detect QR codes and show a notification or link. You can also use dedicated QR scanner apps for additional features like history and multiple QR code storage.

Basics

Are QR codes free to use?

Yes, generating QR codes is completely free with K2V. You can create unlimited QR codes, customize them with colors and logos, and download in multiple formats (PNG, SVG, JPG, PDF). Some advanced features like dynamic QR codes with tracking require a paid plan.

Basics

What's the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

Static QR codes contain fixed information that cannot be changed after creation. Once generated, the data is embedded permanently. Dynamic QR codes, on the other hand, use a short URL that redirects to your destination, allowing you to edit the destination URL anytime without reprinting. Dynamic QR codes also enable scan tracking and analytics.

Creating QR Codes

Can I create a QR code for my website?

Absolutely! Simply paste your website URL into the URL QR code generator. You can also customize the QR code with your brand colors and logo to maintain consistency with your brand identity. Dynamic URL QR codes also allow you to track scan analytics.

Creating QR Codes

How do I create a QR code for WiFi?

To create a WiFi QR code: 1) Select WiFi QR type, 2) Enter your network name (SSID), 3) Select the security type (WPA/WPA2, WEP, or Open), 4) Enter your WiFi password, 5) Generate and download. When scanned, users can connect to your WiFi instantly without typing credentials.

Creating QR Codes

How do I create a vCard QR code?

Create a vCard QR code by selecting the vCard type and entering: Full name, Job title, Company, Phone numbers, Email address, Website, Physical address, and social media links. When scanned, the contact information is saved directly to the scanner's phone contacts.

Creating QR Codes

Can I create a QR code for my WhatsApp?

Yes! Enter your phone number with country code (e.g., +1234567890), and when someone scans the QR code, it will open WhatsApp with a pre-filled message ready to send. This is perfect for business pages, customer support, and marketing materials.

Customization

Can I customize the colors of my QR code?

Yes, K2V allows full color customization. You can choose any color for the QR code pattern and background. For best scannability, ensure high contrast between the foreground and background colors. We recommend avoiding light colors on light backgrounds.

Customization

Can I add my logo to a QR code?

Yes! You can upload your logo and place it in the center of the QR code. For best results, use a square logo with a transparent background (PNG). The QR code error correction level should be set to at least 'Medium' to ensure the code remains scannable with the logo overlay.

Customization

Can I add frames or borders to my QR code?

Yes, K2V offers various QR code frames and borders that can enhance your design while maintaining scannability. You can add frames with custom text like 'Scan Me', 'Follow Us', or 'Learn More'. Frames help attract attention and provide context.

Customization

What file formats can I download my QR code in?

K2V supports multiple download formats: PNG (best for web), SVG (scalable vector for print), JPG (compressed for email), and PDF (best for professional printing). Choose SVG or PDF for high-quality print materials that won't pixelate.

Scanning & Usage

Why won't my QR code scan?

Common QR code scanning issues: 1) Low contrast - ensure dark colors on light background, 2) Too small - increase size for distance scanning, 3) Damaged code - check for scratches or dirt, 4) Error correction too low - increase to H level for damaged codes, 5) Too much data - shorter URLs scan more reliably.

Scanning & Usage

What's the ideal size for a QR code?

The ideal QR code size depends on the scanning distance. For close-up scanning (phone), 1-2 cm is fine. For posters and signs viewed from 1-2 meters, aim for 5-10 cm. For billboards and large displays, use at least 30-50 cm. Always test at actual viewing distance before printing.

Scanning & Usage

How long do QR codes last?

Static QR codes last indefinitely as long as the physical code remains intact and scannable. They don't expire. Dynamic QR codes last as long as your account is active. K2V guarantees permanent QR code availability for the lifetime of our service.

Dynamic QR & Analytics

What is a dynamic QR code?

A dynamic QR code uses a short URL that redirects to your destination URL. This allows you to change where the QR code points anytime without reprinting. Dynamic QR codes also enable powerful features like scan analytics, geolocation tracking, device detection, and time-based redirects.

Dynamic QR & Analytics

Can I track how many people scanned my QR code?

Yes! With dynamic QR codes, you can track: total scans, unique visitors, geographic location (country, city), device type (mobile, desktop, tablet), browser used, referrer sources, and scan times. Real-time analytics help you measure campaign effectiveness.

Dynamic QR & Analytics

Can I edit the destination URL after creating a dynamic QR code?

Absolutely! That's the main advantage of dynamic QR codes. You can change the destination URL anytime from your dashboard. This is perfect for seasonal campaigns, A/B testing, or updating content without reprinting materials.

Business & Marketing

How can businesses use QR codes?

Businesses use QR codes for: Product packaging (link to ingredients, tutorials), Marketing materials (promotions, catalogs), Restaurant menus (contactless ordering), Event tickets (check-in), Business cards (vCard), Retail displays (product info), Loyalty programs, and Customer support (FAQ, contact).

Business & Marketing

Are QR codes secure?

QR codes themselves are secure, but always verify the destination URL before entering personal information. K2V implements security measures including malicious URL detection, HTTPS encryption, and optional password protection for sensitive content. Always ensure your QR codes point to legitimate, secure websites.

Business & Marketing

How do I create a restaurant menu QR code?

Select the Menu QR type and upload your menu PDF or enter menu items manually. When customers scan, they'll see your full menu on their phone. You can update items anytime without reprinting. Perfect for contactless dining, takeaway menus, and food truck operations.

Business & Marketing

Can I create a QR code coupon?

Yes! Use our Coupon QR type to create promotional QR codes that offer discounts or special offers. You can include: discount percentage or amount, promo code, expiration date, terms and conditions. Track redemption rates and campaign performance with analytics.

Technical

What's the error correction level?

Error correction allows QR codes to remain scannable even if damaged or partially obscured. Levels: L (7% recoverable), M (15%), Q (25%), H (30%). Use higher levels if QR codes will be outdoors, on packaging, or have logos overlaid. Higher levels create denser codes.

Technical

How much data can a QR code hold?

QR code data capacity depends on the version and error correction: Version 1 (21x21) holds ~25 chars, Version 40 (177x177) holds ~3KB. Numeric data maximizes capacity, while mixed characters reduce it. For best scanning reliability, keep data under 500 characters.

Technical

Do QR codes work in black and white?

Yes, QR codes work in black and white and that's actually the most reliable format. However, you can use colors as long as there's sufficient contrast. The QR code's dark modules must be darker than the background. Avoid red on black or similar low-contrast combinations.
